SODFS: Top-5 NFL DFS Targets for Week 5 on DraftKings

SODFS is back with our Top-5 NFL DFS Targets for Week 5. Last week, we had a rough week, which is expected here and there. We want to do better for you all though. What we also do want to do is dig deeper to determine which players are optimal for making you some money. The pricing continues to get tougher, but due to injuries, there are some values to be had.

We’re going to give you some studs, mid-priced players, and some values in this week’s article. But first, be sure to check out last night’s latest episode of Sons of DFS on the TNFF Network!

Without further adieu, let’s jump in.

Top-5 NFL DFS Targets for Week 5

Jakobi Meyers, WR, $5,600

Jakobi Meyers is one of the mid-tier/value plays we were talking about. He officially became a starter in Week 7 last year for the New England Patriots. Since then, he has a target share of 28.7%. Only Stefon Diggs and DeVontae Adam’s are higher. His Air yardage is also over 30%. He also has 26 targets in the last two weeks from rookie quarterback Mac Jones, with 41 total on the year. He’s due to score a TD and has emerged as the No. 1 option for Mac Jones.

With a fair price tag, he is a solid GPP play. Let’s hope he can find paydirt.

Derrick Henry, RB, $9,000

Tenessee Titans running back Derrick Henry is showing no signs of slowing down in 2021. He is averaging 30-plus carries per game at this point through four weeks. He is also averaging 28.1 FPPG and has scored 30 or more twice including that amazing showing in Week 2 vs Seattle when he also recorded 6 receptions. Henry gets the Jacksonville Jaguars defense this week, meaning the matchup can’t get much better. His price is the highest player on the slate because of all of the things we just mentioned, but if some values continue to open up as we head into Sunday, I still can see his ownership breaking 65-70% in cash.

If you can make the right moves with your roster, he’s a lock. Look for him to feast as a top DFS target for Week 5.

Trey Lance, QB, $5,700

Trey Lance found his way into the game following an injury to Jimm G early in the game. I’ll admit, he didn’t look great and is probably not ready to be an NFL starter. With that in mind, you don’t have to be really good, to be good in fantasy or DFS. He completed 9 of 18 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns and also added 7 rushing attempts for 41 yards, ending the game with 20.4 DraftKings points in 30 minutes of action against the Seattle Seahawks.

Playing the Arizona Cardinals this week I expect a battle with Kyler Murray and company. With a high-scoring affair likely, Lance should have no problem bringing back value at this price.

Saquon Barkley, RB, $7,300

Saquon Barkley started the year out slow, while presumably still recovering from injuries suffered last year. It does however appear that he’s returning to his prime form, as the New York Giants continue to get him more involved each week. Over the last three weeks, Barkley has been on the field for at least 84% of the snaps. He’s yet to eclipse 60 rushing yards in a game this year but has found the end zone twice on the ground. He’s also been involved in the passing game, primarily in the last two weeks. Over the last two games, he has 13 targets, 11 receptions, and a score.

He gets a Dallas Cowboys defense that’s been giving up big plays this year. If some of the receivers are unable to go, it only helps Barkley’s upside. Great for cash and GPP.

Curtis Samuel, WR, $3,000

A groin injury sidelined Washington Football Team, Wide Receiver Curtis Samuel until last week when he saw limited action. Samuel caught all four of his targets in a relatively quiet 19-yard week. We shouldn’t need to tell you that Samuel can be a useful fantasy weapon once he returns to health. He’s gained 1,808 scrimmage yards over the past two seasons, including 12 touchdowns, and also caught 131 passes.

Washington lost both Logan Thomas (hamstring) and Dyami Brown (knee) to injuries last Sunday, so Samuel’s arrival is well-timed. He’s priced at the minimum salary. It’s a great play for GPPs to get some of those higher-priced studs. This play is strictly for tournaments. I would avoid if possible for cash until we know his involvement weekly.
