NFL DFS Targets for Week 9 on DraftKings

Lamar Jackson | QB | $7,300

We’re back on the Lamar Jackson train for Week 9. RunTheSims love’s Jackson, and we do too, especially when he is too cheap. The Minnesota Vikings look like a good matchup on paper, but if you dig in it looks apparent that could be a facade. The reason is the Vikings haven’t faced many top-tier signal-callers in 2021. When they did, they showed signs of weakness, allowing Kyler Murray and Russell Wilson to throw for nearly 300 passing yards. They also allowed Sam Darnold 50 rushing yards.

Do you see the picture we’re painting here?

Jackson is in a prime spot to do both. He has continued to play very well this season, completing 64.9% of his passes for a career-best 8.6 yards per attempt. He also possesses elite mobility, with over 50 yards rushing in all but one game this season. Improving matters further, the Baltimore Ravens have a potential shootout on deck against the Vikings.

I really hope those playing DFS bite on Jordan Love. With a price tag of $4,400 on Love, it’s bound to drive Jackson’s ownership down.

Marquise Brown | WR | $6,000

For those stacking with Jackson in the passing game, Hollywood Brown is a great option in Week 9. Baltimore continues to throw at a higher rate than any other point in Jackson’s career and Brown’s target share has stabilized.

He currently boasts a 25.1% target share and a 36.9% air yards share. Victim of multiple dropped touchdowns, Brown’s price is still affordable on this slate at $6k. As 6.5-point favorites over Minnesota in a game with a 50.5-point total, Brown looks like the clear top stacking option with Jackson in Week 9 DFS.

Tyler Conklin | TE | $3,000

The price is way too cheap in a game where the Vikings face the Ravens, the team I plan to load up on in Week 9. Conklin offers great value and a bounce-back option for stacking. The Ravens are the worst team in the NFL vs the TE position. On paper, Baltimore Safety Chuck Clark provides a tough matchup according to PFF’s TE vs DB Matchup chart, but I’m not scared with the price where it is.

If you need a value to fit in some of these great studs and are using Jackson, Marquise Brown, and/or Mark Andrews, you’ll want some players from the opposing team. There are a few options, but none offer the cheap price tag that Tyler Conklin gives us.

Austin Ekeler | RB | $7,900

There are some tempting options across the board at running back this week. The guy that I love is Los Angles Chargers RB, Austin Ekeler. While he supposedly wasn’t 100% going into a tough matchup with the New England Patriots, he still put up an impressive total on DraftKings. His PPR value gives him a nice floor, while his overall role makes this salary considerably cheap.

Ekeler has even more upside in Week 9, where he faces a Philadelphia Eagles defense that ranks second-worst in the NFL vs the halfback position. Philly looked good against my Detroit Lions last week, but they’ve had it taken to them on the ground all year.

The base floor via RunTheSims is 20 DK points. The projected ceiling is 30. I’ll take the higher end of the median.

Amari Cooper | WR | $5,700

The Dallas Cowboys have an implied team total of 29.25 this week, and Cooper has historically averaged 19.0 DraftKings FPG when the implied team total is above 28. Battling lingering injuries should keep his ownership low. Mix in the quality discount for a wideout of his caliber on an offense expecting to get quarterback Dak Prescott back to full strength this week.

Denver sits 11th at defending wide receivers (91/1,328/7 on 160 targets), but they allowed over 200 yards to wideouts in four matchups thus far. Cooper is the biggest miss-price on the slate.

It’s also worth noting — we’re also big fans of Ezekiel Elliott at home priced at $7,000 on Draftkings.
