With the most wonderful time of the year set to kick off tonight, we here at True North Fantasy Football are excited to once again dive into the most intriguing and more importantly profitable, NFL prop bets for Week 1. Let’s flush out some winners for you to rake in that cash. Using DraftKings Sportsbook as the provider, I’ll outline my favourite prop bets for the week, bets I’ll actually be making, and I’ll keep a running score just to see if I actually know what I’m talking about.
Without any further ado, let’s dive into Week 1.
Right off the bat, there are three tight end props that are tantalizing and deserve our attention.
NFL Prop Bets
Dallas Goedert – Receiving Yards Over 42.5 -115
Simply put, the Atlanta Falcons were atrocious against the pass in 2020. They allowed a league-high 4,697 yards through the air, which translated to just shy of 300 yards per game. On the flip side, Philadelphia’s Dallas Godert averaged 11.4 yards per reception in 2020. The 42.5 number feels like something Goedert will eclipse by halftime.
George Kittle Anytime TD Scorer +125
No offence to the Detroit Lions but their defence in 2020 sucked. George Kittle presents matchup problems for the best of NFL defences, let alone the 30th ranked on. Regardless if it is Jimmy Garoppolo or Trey Lance under centre, Kittle finds the endzone in Week 1.
Robert Tonyan Receptions Over 3.5 +130
Aaron Rodgers, the future host of Jeopardy, is a smart dude. Robert Tonyan is a nice big target with velvet hands. Last year in this same matchup against the New Orlean Saints, Tonyan hauled in all five Rodgers targets for 50 yards and a score. Bet on a repeat this week.
We will end this week’s prop locks with three surefire quarterback bets.
Tua Tagovailoa Interceptions Over 0.5 -115
Tua Tagovailoa had a rough 2020. He averaged more than a pick a game over his 10 starts. Bill Belichek is a football savant and his 2020 Patriots ranked 7th in overall team defence and had 22 takeaways. This one is too easy.
Dak Prescott Rush Yards Over 12.5 -115
When I first saw this number I thought it was a misprint. Dak Prescott has a lifetime average of 19.0 yards rushing per game. Combine that with the fact that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had 48 sacks, 73 hurries, and 68 quarterback knockdowns, and this makes it a no brainer because Dak will be running for his life Thursday night.
Sam Darnold Anytime Scorer +380
This is my favourite bet of the week. Revenge games bring out the best in prop betting. Can you not envision a situation in the Carolina Panthers game this week against the New York Jets where Carolina has the ball on the Jets’ 3-yard line and the entire stadium is screaming to watch Christian McCaffrey? Ya well, let’s draw up a naked bootleg for Sam Darnold so he can scamper into the endzone and spike the ball on the logo of the team that gave up on him a year ago. Now that is a bet worth placing.
So good luck in Week 1, bet well and rake the money in all weekend long.
