Surprising Fantasy Football Trends from Week 4

By now, our fantasy football teams are really starting to take shape and the areas of concern are starting to become problematic. Did a string of injuries really take a toll on your squad last week? Having issues getting production out of your RBs? How’s that elite WR1 working out for you? It’s time to become waiver wire warriors and master trade negotiators for Week 5.

Check out our trends from Week 3, here.

Can somebody put an APB out for CeeDee Lamb?

CeeDee Lamb owners certainly didn’t draft the wideout expecting him to be sitting as the WR27 after Week 4.

With the Dallas Cowboy offense ranking 4th in the NFL, scoring 31.5 ppg, Lamb is certainly underperforming with his paltry 8.4 fantasy points per game. Reason to be concerned? Sure. Time to panic? Absolutely not.  Although the targets haven’t been there the last three weeks, Lamb is still on the field for over 80% of the team’s offensive snaps. It’s just a matter of time before CeeDee SZN is upon us.

Starting RBs is just a crapshoot in PPR formats.

After Derrick Henry, who ya got? Henry sits atop the leaderboard with 103.5 fantasy points. Any idea who’s next? Well if you guessed Cordarrelle Patterson (82.4 FPS) and Najee Harris (74.3 FPS) then you, my friend, are probably dominating your league right now. This is going to be an issue all season long. Go get yourself some upper echelon WRs pronto and stream mid-tier RBs where you can.

But stay away from the WFT backfield because that space is treacherous.

Antonio Gibson, on paper, is the RB1 in Washington. 59 rush attempts, 11 pass targets, and two touchdowns have led to 46 fantasy points thus far in 2021. However, J.D. McKissic has 31.8 fantasy points of his own on 15 rush attempts, 14 passing targets, and two touchdowns himself. Time to use Gibson as trade bait. Maybe try and get the NFL’s rushing touchdown stud.

The NFL’s rushing touchdown leader resides in Carolina.

Problem is that it’s not Christian McCaffery. Sam Darnold is leading the league with five rushing touchdowns. As a member of the New York Jets, it took Darnold three seasons to score five touchdowns on the ground. As the current QB5 in fantasy football, Darnold is experiencing a career renaissance in Carolina and faces favorable matchups against the Eagles, Vikings, and Giants in the next three weeks.

Big Ben is shot.

Ben Roethlisberger is no longer a viable fantasy football option. At QB28, his 12 fantasy points per game are killing you right now. Time to cut bait and grab whatever else is available in your league’s waiver wire.

The 411 on DST.

The Buffalo Bills are a legit weapon on D. They have two shutouts in the last three weeks and rank 1st overall in points allowed. Yes, the Kansas City Chiefs pose a huge problem this week but after that, the Bills have a schedule that includes the Jets (twice), Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots (twice), Indianapolis Colts, and Atlanta Falcons. Do what you can to get them.

Speaking of dominance, how about Trevon Diggs? The Cowboy corner is quickly etching the moniker ‘shutdown’ on his resume, one that includes a league-leading five interceptions and a score. If Diggs is somehow available in your IDP league, make that waiver claim immediately.
